Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit to three European countries including Germany, Denmark and France from May 2nd to 4th, 2022. PM Modi is travelling to Europe at a time when the majority of the European countries are opposing Russia due to the Ukraine invasion. This is the first overseas tour of PM Modi this year.
However, India has not given its vote against Russia even once, its stand against the Russia-Ukraine conflict has been neutral so far. PM Modi’s European trip is taking place at a time when the territory is encountering numerous challenges.
Before heading to his visit to Berlin, Copenhagen and Paris, beginning on Monday, PM said his meetings with newly appointed German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and his French counterparts will propel new cooperation in different areas.
“My visit to Europe comes at a time when the region faces many challenges and choices,” he said against the background of the Ukraine situation that has raised queries about the well-established security structure in Europe. “Through my engagements, I intend to strengthen the spirit of cooperation with our European partners, who are important companions in India’s quest for peace and prosperity,” he added further to his statement.
Foreign secretary, Mr Vinay Kwatra said during a media briefing that the situation of the Ukraine conflict will be evaluated during PM Modi’s three-nation visit, while the primary focus will be on cooperation in vital areas like energy, trade and green development.
“When the prime minister interfaces with leaders of these countries, naturally, the issues of regional and global importance would figure in the discussions… The principal focus of the visit and discussions is to structure and strengthen bilateral partnership across a range of areas and exchange perspectives on the Ukraine issue also,” Kwatra said.
During this European visit, PM Modi will take part in bilateral talks with his Danish counterpart Mette Fredriksen, participate in the 2nd India-Nordic Summit and at the last phase of this visit, will meet French President Emmanual Macron.
