The UK will finally find the next prime minister on Monday, who will lead the country after Boris Johnson. Two members Liz Truss, Foreign Secretary from the Conservative Party and Rishi Sunak, former Chancellor of the Exchequer, are in the race.
The UK leadership contest began in July after Boris Johnson announced his resignation from his government following a slew of scandals. The results will be announced at 12:30 PM (11:30 GMT), and the winner will take charge on Tuesday after the outgoing and incoming premieres will meet Queen Elizabeth II at Balmoral, her castle in Scotland.
If Liz Truss wins the race, she will be the third female prime minister of the UK, following Theresa May and Margaret Thatcher.
Postal and online voting closed on Friday after eight weeks of long voting; Truss described it to the press as “the longest job interview in history”.
The announcement on Monday will take over the leadership from Boris Johnson. He will give a farewell speech at Downing Street and then tender his resignation to Queen Elizabeth II, after which she will hand over the responsibilities to the new prime minister in the so-called ‘Kissing of hands’ ceremony.
