April 3, 2020: Prime Minister Narender Modi in his address to the nation on Friday appreciated the people of the country to contribute in this fight against COVID-19. The Prime Minister in his speech urged people to stay home and said “We will have to come together to curb the effect of this epidemic and in this time of crisis our unity can only save us.” Here are some of the major key points of Mr. Modi’s address to the nation.

  • The nationwide lockdown today has completed 9 days. Your discipline and service was unequalled and I appreciate the way people have set an example of unity.
  • Whole world appreciated the concept all of you had adopted on March 22 to thank people in service to fight against coronavirus. Many other countries are adopting the same concept.
  • At this time when millions of people are locked in their home due to lockdown. There must be a few who must be thinking how can they alone fight this battle against COVID-19.
  • We are not alone. We are a family of 130 million people who came together to halt the spread of the virus.
  • This kind of awareness motivates us, encourages us to find new goals and gives a magical power to accomplish our goals. It further paves our way.
  • Friends, amid the darkness of this coronavirus pandemic, we need to find a path that goes towards the light.
  • I urged all of you to stand on your doorway or balconies on April 5 and light a candle or Diya, torch or your mobile’s flashlight for nine minutes with an aim to cut down the effect of this coronavirus.
  • We will realize the power of light when each of us 130 crore Indias will light up  a Diya or candle. We will be able to see the potential of the reason we all are fighting together.
  • I request everyone, during this event, please don’t’ assemble in one place. This task needs to be performed from your balconies and doorways only.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a short video on his Twitter handle informing — “At 9 am on Friday morning, I’ll share a small video with my friends Indians.”

India’s COVID-19 death toll has reached 72 as the number of confirmed cases spike to 2,575. The Prime Minister has enforced a countrywide 21-day lockdown on March 24 to stop the spread of novel coronavirus.
