On January 13, 2025, Mahakumbh 2025 began in Prayagraj and will end on February 26, 2025. Over 1 crore devotees bathed in the sacred Sangam of Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati on day 1.
The first ‘Amrit Snan’ of the Mahakumbh 2025 is taking place today on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, Mahant Ravindra Puri, the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad (ABAP) president, shared with PTI news agency that the first ‘Amrit Snan’ begins at 5:30 AM. A record number of devotees, including ‘Akharas’, are anticipated to participate in the ‘Amrit Snan’. Seers and Naga Sadhus took a holy dip in the early morning.
The Mahakumbh Mela, one of India’s famous festivals, is the world’s largest gathering and is a 45-day spiritual event. It’s being organised over a 10,000-acre area. Over 3,000 special trains, 554 ticket counters, including 151 mobile Unreserved Ticketing Systems (UTS), 1,176 CCTV cameras, 12 language announcement systems, and a dedicated headquarter for monitoring — all will cater to pilgrims gathering on Prayagraj.
After 12 years, the Mahakumbh 2025 is expected to boost Uttar Pradesh’s economy significantly. The budget for this event is Rs 7,000 crore, but it’s expected to generate up to Rs 2 lakh crore. The news agency IANS predicted the average expenditure per person could go up to Rs 10,000, generating Rs 4 lakh crore for the economy.
