The Winter Session of Parliament has entered its final week. PM Narendra Modi’s central government will introduce the “One Nation, One Election” Bill today in the Lok Sabha. BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) is the largest party in the House and will lead the committee and might win the most seats. The committee members will be announced by the end of today. This session started on November 25 and will end on December 20.
Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal will introduce the ONOE bill and might request Speaker Om Birla to refer it to a Joint Committee of Parliament. The Cabinet cleared this bill last week, and it will align with the Jammu and Kashmir, Puducherry, and NCT of Delhi elections. In addition to the ONOE bill, Arjun Ram Meghwal will also present the Union Territories Laws Bill.
Opposition party leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee, and MK Stalin are highly criticising the One Nation, One Electoral Bill. They accuse the BJP government of using it as a tool to destroy India’s democratic structure.
