Due to Uber launching Shikara Rides, tourists visiting Srinagar’s iconic Dal Lake can now explore its beauty more conveniently. This initiative by Uber is the first ever water transport service not only in India but in entire Asia.
Shikara rides were introduced at Nehru Park, one of the popular island hubs on Dal Lake, and started with seven locally-owned Shikaras. Visitors can book Shikara rides from the Uber app and enjoy a fun time at the lake.
The American multinational transportation company Uber will not charge additionally for booking a Shikara from its app. Instead, the ticket price passengers pay will go directly to the Shikara operators.
The president of the Shikara Owners Association, Wali Mohammad Bhatt, said, “It will boost our business. There will be fixed rates, no cheating, and no scope for bargaining.” Most importantly, Shikara rides in Kashmir are priced at government-regulated rates, not by the Uber Company. Generally, Shikara rides cost approximately Rs 800 for a one-hour ride.
