On Thursday, Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia announced a ‘special military operation’ in Ukraine. Putin has also asked other countries to not intervene in the Russia-Ukraine crisis and stated that doing so will lead to dreadful consequences.
A few hours later explosions were witnessed in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv and the eastern port city of Maripol. This led to countries like USA and netizens condemn Putin’s action. The US president Joe Biden called the attack ‘unjustified’ and ‘unprovoked’.
Even netizens came in support of Ukraine and started to trend two new hashtags, “World war 3’ and ‘WWIII’. While most people fear that this “military operation” in Ukraine can give rise to a mega-crisis, Ukraine shows no sign of backing down.
Dmytro Kubela states that Putin launched a full-scale invasion wherein the peaceful cities are also under strike. The airport Ivano-Frankivsk was hit by a Russian missile, while another attack was set by Russian troops at Ukraine’s border guard service from earlier annexed Crimea.
Internet fears that this military operation will give rise to the next world war. Vir Das, a Bollywood actor tweeted, “Just got antibodies and these bastards are starting world war 3”, while Rinu Oduala, a human rights advocate, tweeted “My generation isn’t getting any breathing space at all. A pandemic with different strains and now world war 3?” With this netizens have started weighing the consequences of a World War amidst a global pandemic.
Vladimir Putin now says, “Ukraine was never a different nation, but a puppet in the hand so the West.” He stated this while also accusing the United States of not meeting his demands.
Russia launched the attack of February 24th, 2022 on Ukraine, Donetsk, and Luhansk. The attack has teared up the Minsk peace accord.
