Many countries all around the world are on the verge of uplifting all the covid 19 restrictions and resuming travel worldwide, while China notices a surge of coronavirus cases. The rise of cases in China has raised eyebrows of health organisations as the conditions could get worst.
China has reported around 3,400 cases on Sunday, these cases are said to be the highest in the last two years, increasing a notion of stress all over the country. Local authorities manifested that the surge of new cases is linked with the new omicron variant. The locally transmitted cases of covid 19 were reported around 1000 cases per day, topping up to 3,100 on Sunday, according to the National Health Commission. The rise of cases is said to be the highest in two years in China.
Local health authorities in China have attributed that this is the Omicron variant spread all over South China. The Omicron variant is more transmissible among people but the virus causes less severe symptoms than the other variants of covid 19. The situation is said to be under control as the mortality rate is controlled and the cases are not causing any severe damage.
This condition has resulted in partial and full shutdowns in the country. Shenzhen city was sealed on Sunday, including any transport services. Other cities facing partial lockdown are Jilin City, Yanjin and Changchun. Many provinces in China are locked down since March 1st, but the cases are not seemingly decreasing, causing lockdowns in urban areas and villages.
Due to the new outbreak of the Omicron variant, China has allowed a rapid antigen test to diagnose covid 19. Earlier this month, the top officials in China claimed that ‘the country has performed the best to overcome the pandemic and has achieved success in zero case policy of restricting national and international travel.’
However, many Chinese cities like Shanghai and Beijing are witnessing the highest rise in covid cases, giving a chance to other countries to ask questions based on their pandemic strategy. Since 2019, coronavirus has claimed over 6 million lives so far all around the world.
