The 64th Annual Grammy Awards are commenced in Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena, and the awards are still in progress to cover other categories. It is the first time Las Vegas is hosting a Grammy Award Ceremony.
31st January was the scheduled date to initiate the ceremony, but as the latest variant of the Coronavirus, Omnicron, has affected several significant events, Grammys are no exception.
The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences is an organisation that has been giving Grammy Awards since 1957 to honour music artists, compositions, and albums. Grammys would be delivered in 86 categories this year, two more than last year’s categories.
Highlights Of The Evening –
- Jon Batiste is the frontrunner of the evening; he got the most 11 nominations with five wins. On the other hand, Doja Cat, H.E.R, and Justine Beiber each had earned eight nominations.
- Along with the Grammy for Best New Artist, Olivia Rodrigo has got three trophies, including Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album.
- Brandon Anderson, Christopher Brody Brown, Dernst Emile II, and Bruno Mars got the Song of the Year award for the “Leave the door open” song.
- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has drawn the audience’s attention as he made an unpredictable appearance during the ceremony through a pre-recorded video message.
- Doja Cat and SZA win Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Kiss Me More.”
- Jazmine Sullivan wins Best R&B Album Grammy for Heaux Tales.
- Indian music maestro A.R Rehman made his presence felt and posted a few selfies from the ceremony through his Twitter handle.
It was pretty disappointing for Indian fans that the organisers have failed to mention the late Lata Mangeshkar and Dilip Kumar. They have significantly contributed to Indian Cinema with their cinematographic and musical works. It was shocking because the academy had previously mentioned Irrfan Khan, Shushant Singh Rajput, and Rishi Kapoor in the Memoriam section.
