A Deadly Plane Crash Throws South Korea In Deep Sorrows

South Korea in Deep Grief After Plane Crash

The whole Muan International Airport, South Korea, was covered in tears after a Jeju Air flight crashed on the runway. Currently, families of victims wait in the temporary shelters at the Airport to claim the remains of their loved ones. Recovery and identification of victims of the plane crash may take until January 8, 2025.

This was Jeju Air’s 737-800 carrier that crashed and was carrying 181 people onboard, out of which 179 were killed in the deadly crash. The two passengers who survived the crash were seated in the rear tail section, statistically known to be the safest place on a commercial flight.

Survivors of the plane crash are identified as Lee, 32 and Kwon, 25. Both were pulled out from the tail section safely and are currently in the hospital. The Korean Times reported that Lee suffered severe left shoulder and head injuries but was conscious. Kwon suffered a fractured ankle, a scalp laceration, a fractured ankle, and abdominal pain.

The plane flew from Bangkok to Muan and attempted to land shortly after 9 AM but crashed into a fence. Video recordings of the incident show the plane skidding off the runway, crashing, and immediately bursting into flames.

The South Jeolla Provincial Police Agency’s Investigative department shared they have sent the victims’ remains to the National Forensic Service. However, even with maximum focus and effort, DNA results won’t be available until next Wednesday. The investigator in charge, Na Won-oh, shared that only 5 bodies are in recognisable condition.
