Recently, a suicide bomber blew himself up at the Quatta Railway Station in Pakistan, killing 26 people and injuring 62 others. The attack occurred when around 100 passengers were waiting at the station for a train to the garrison city of Rawalpindi.
Hamza Shafqaat, a senior government administrator, is monitoring the matter. When asked about the security breach that led to this bomb blast, he said, “It is usually very difficult to stop such suicide attacks.” On the other hand, Shahid Nawaz, the security in charge of the train station, said, “There was no security breach”. He added that the attacker was disguised as a passenger and blew himself up at the station.
This bomb blast was so devastating that it blew the whole steel structure of the station roof, scattered luggage, and destroyed all stalls. Most victims were taken to a state-owned hospital, and the remaining ones were brought to a nearby military hospital.

A separatist group named the Balochistan Liberation Army claimed the attack, saying the bomber was targeting troops of the station. The BLA has been seeking independence from Islamabad and executed this attack. In August 2024, BLA executed several attacks on passenger buses, police and security across Balochistan, killing over 50 people.
The government temporarily halted the station until 14 November for security reasons. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif denounced the attack, stating those associated with the bomb blast would pay a heavy price. He also condemned security that they were supposed to eliminate the menace of terrorism.
