On this Monday, the Kolkata rape-murder case took a major twist when CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) arrested Sandip Ghosh, the ex-principal of RG Kar Hospital. A two-week marathon questioning session followed this arrest. The arrest was made in connection with financial irregularities during Ghoshe’s tenure.
Sandeep Ghosh has come under severe scrutiny following the Kolkata rape-murder case. He resigned on 12 August, three days after the incident. Understanding the seriousness of the situation, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has also suspended the membership of Dr Sandip Ghosh.
As Sandip was the Principal of the RG Kar Hospital, and the doctor trainee’s body was discovered there, his role has been questioned constantly. The High Court also asked Sandip why he didn’t file an FIR immediately after the incident.
In addition to Sandip Ghosh, the CBI arrested three others for involvement in financial irregularities at RG Kar Hospital. These three were Biplav Singha, 52, Suman Hazara, 46, who were vendors, and Afsar Ali Khan, 44, a hospital security guard.
The former Superintendent of RG Kar Hospital, Akhtar Ali, filed an appeal in the High Court. In this appeal, he accused Sandip Ghosh of the illegal sale of unclaimed corpses, trafficking of biomedical waste, and passing tenders against commissions paid by medicine and medical equipment suppliers.

Sandip Ghosh’s arrest has not placated Bengal’s doctors and society, which have been on the warpath since the incident. Bengal BJP Chief Sukanta Majumdar also said in a video message that Bengal residents deserve the truth. Despite the attempts to destroy evidence, Ghosh’s wrongdoings will soon be exposed.
