April 11, 2020: The meeting of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi with chief ministers on Saturday is likely to discuss the crucial issue of lives versus livelihood amid the ongoing 21-day nationwide lockdown. Since Mr. Modi has made it very clear that the lockdown in India will not lift up across the country in just one go. Several state governments and chief ministers agreed to this with suggestions to extend the lockdown till the end of the month. Odisha, Punjab and Mumbai have already made this step in approach to curb the effects of Coronavirus in India.
It would be interesting to see how the question of lives versus likelihood is tackled at Saturday’s meeting. While Modi had said he knew state governments, the district administration and health officials were keen to continue with the lockdown, a final call will be taken after the meeting.

The central government, while imposing the lockdown, had announced that shops dealing in essential commodities, including the online platforms, will remain open, besides services like health, sanitation, police, media, agriculture and banking. Movements of essential and non-essential cargos were also allowed by the government, but there have been reports about disruptions in the supply chain due to lack of labourers and trucks, among other issues.
