According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature recorded in Delhi on Sunday was 49 degrees celsius. Remarkably, the parts of the national capital, including Najafgarh recorded 49.1 degrees celsius while Mungeshpur station recorded a temperature of 49.2 degrees celsius. Considering the worst condition in Delhi, the Indian Meteorological Department has asked the people of Northern India not to venture out unnecessarily and drink plenty of water throughout the day.
However, the west part of Delhi records the temperature ranging between 46 and 48 degrees celsius. While the other parts of Delhi reported recording 46.8 degrees celsius at Ayanagar, 46.4 degrees Celsius at Palam and 45.8 degrees celsius at Lodhi Road, as per the report shared by the Central Agency. In fact, an ‘Orange Alert’ was issued on Sunday to caution people about the severe heatwave. The IMD uses four colour codes for weather warning, which includes,
- Green – No action is needed
- Yellow – Watch and stay updated
- Orange – Be prepared
- Red – Take action

Yes, this week, Delhi and its people can expect to have some relief from scorching summer days. People can witness cloudy skies, thunderstorms, and light rain that will ultimately provide some relief from intense heat. However, the weather agency advised people not to go out unless it’s necessary because heatwaves could lead to moderate health conditions for vulnerable people. So, keep yourself hydrated, keep cool, and avoid heat exposure, wear light-weighted, light-coloured loose cotton clothes while going out, the central weather agency said.
