India’s prime telecom service provider, Bharti Airtel, has announced a revision to its popular prepaid plans. The revised prepaid plans will be in effect from November 26. Bharti Airtel stock has witnessed a growth of 4 percent in early trade after this announcement.
“Bharti Airtel has always maintained that the mobile Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) needs to be at ₹200 and ultimately at ₹300, so as to provide a reasonable return on capital that allows for a financially healthy business model,” the company said.
Bharti Airtel will increase prepaid charges by 20% to 25% from November 26 to increase its ARPU. After the pricing change, the base prepaid Airtel plan will cost Rs 99 and have a 28-day validity. The standard package, which includes the same perks, costs Rs 75. All plans’ benefits are likely to remain unchanged.
Subscribers to Airtel’s popular monthly plans would have to pay at least Rs 50 more, while 56-day and 84-day plans will cost at least Rs 479 and Rs 455, respectively.
“We also believe that this level of ARPU will enable the substantial investments required in networks and spectrum. Even more important, this will give Airtel the elbow room to roll out 5G in India. Therefore, as a first step, we are taking the lead in rebalancing our tariffs during the month of November. Accordingly, our new tariffs as indicated below will come into effect from November 26, 2021,” said the management.
Revised Prepaid Tariffs For Airtel Subscribers
The previous significant price revision was in December 2019, when the three giant telecoms Airtel, Vodafone, and Jio had announced the hike in prepaid tariffs. Therefore, it is anticipated that Vodafone, Idea, and Jio will follow Airtel with revised prepaid plans in the upcoming days.
