After observing the country’s overwhelming response to Janata Curfew, Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi inflicted a total lockdown in the country for 21 days.
The number of corona positive cases is increasing rapidly and this decision of total lockdown in a country amid pandemic is an example for other countries, said WHO.
Mr. Modi declared a three-week countrywide lockdown starting midnight India time (18:30 GMT) Tuesday, explaining that it is more like a curfew than a lockdown. At this point of time when countries like Italy, USA and Spain are under influence of the Coronavirus Outbreak, it was the only way to halt the spread of COVID-19, he added while addressing the country on Tuesday.
Earlier on Thursday, Mr. Modi announced a 1-day lockdown in 36 states & territories of India along with requesting people to appreciate the people involved in essential services like healthcare, pharma and else. ‘Janata Curfew’ was a drill to ensure whether or not the country is ready for this, Indian prime minister said on Tuesday.
All the essential services like healthcare, food and grocery and others will be available during the lockdown, confirmed Indian officials.
In his second address to the nation on the Coronavirus outbreak in India, 69-year-old Mr. Modi requested the country’s citizens to stay at home as much as possible because social distancing is the only way to cut down the spread of this virus through blocking the chain.
Narendra Modi warned the people to stay indoors for 21 days, otherwise, one step can lead the country to set back 21 years and the families, economy and everything will be badly affected.
“This is a curfew,” Mr. Modi said. “People disobeying this lockdown will have to face legal action or may be sent to jail for 3 months,” he added in response to warn people.
