Modi, Putin, Xi, Along Other Leaders To Attend SCO Summit 2022

PM Modi Among Top Leaders To Attend SCO Summit In Uzbekistan

SCO, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit, will be held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on September 15th and 16th, 2022. This is the 22nd meeting of the council of heads of state of SCO. Currently, Zhang Ming of china is the secretary general of the summit.

PM Modi is ready with the schedule to join the meeting of the summit. Since June 2019, this would be the first in-person meeting of the leaders. Due to the pandemic, all the meetings and sessions were held online. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to join the meeting on 14th Sep and will return on 16th Sep as per his current travelling schedule. India’s presence is essential at the summit as it would assume the rotational presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. In Sep 2023, India will be hosting the summit by grouping all the leaders in the upcoming year.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi along with other leaders are expected to join the summit. People have speculated about bilateral meetings among the countries, though no official statement has been made.

There are many disengagements between India and China that needs to be sorted out with proper conversation. The last remaining points between India and China are the Gogra Hot Springs region, Patrolling point 15 etc. Once the meeting is completed, there are chances of seeing better settlements in future.
