There was a time when Indian brands used to do their business only in India but as globalisation picked up pace, Indian companies started moving out and became multinational corporations. While on their way to becoming MNCs, many Indian companies bought foreign brands to expand their portfolio. Today we will take a look at the most famous Indian brands in the World.

1. Jaguar & Land Rover (JLR)

Jaguar and Land Rover, founded in 1935 and 1945, respectively, were Originally British brands that were previously under American ownership of Ford Motors until Tata Bought it for $2.3 billion in 2008 and merged them into JLR after they were on the verge of collapse. After buying JLR, Tata once again made them a successful car manufacturer, and now, Jaguar and Land Rover are 2 of the most loved and critically acclaimed car manufacturers in the World and one of the most famous Indian brands. Both of the brands have a long and strong heritage behind them. Land Rover is considered one of the best off-road car makers in the world, and Jaguar was always a brand car fanatics would do anything to lay their hands on. 

2. East India Company

Established in the 1600s, East India Company is now technically the oldest company of India.  Now relax, we know that you weren’t expecting this company to be a part of the list but if you look at it, this is one of the most famous Indian brands out there. It’s true; most Indians don’t even like this company, let alone be proud of it. We understand that this company has a dark history, but now an Indian, Sanjiv Mehta owns this company and sells British heritage in the form of luxury goods like memorabilia and proof coins. 3. Royal Enfield

Another famous Indian brand that was formerly British is Royal Enfield. This Brand has a cult following among bike lovers. Established in 1893, Royal Enfield is one of the most famous Indian brands around the world for its torquey engines, thumping noise and relatively lightweight chassis. The company is currently owned by Eicher Motors. 

4. Old Monk

Founded in 1954, Old Monk has been the biggest Indian-made foreign liquor brand (IMFL) in the world. Old Monk is a dark rum brand that originated in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. Although it had some shortcomings in the advertising part of the business, that didn’t stop it from becoming the biggest dark rum brand in the world. It is made in India and sold by multiple dealers across different countries like Russia, USA, Estonia, the UK and many more. Old Monk is one of the most famous Indian brands in the world and is one of the best-selling Rums in India

5. Peter England

Don’t let the name fool you. Peter England is an Indian company through and through, and it is among the most famous Indian brands in the world. Originally founded in 1889 in Ireland, Peter England made its way to India in 1997 and was later bought by Aditya Birla Group. It is one of the largest menswear brands in India and is owned by a subsidiary of the Aditya Birla Group, Madura Fashion and Lifestyle. 

6. Cafe Coffee Day (CCD)

CCD is one of the most famous Indian Brands every college student in India is familiar with. It is owned by Karnataka-based Amalgamated Bean Coffee Trading Company. The first ever CCD Cafe was set up in 1996 in Bangalore, since then, it has been a premiere place for coffee lovers. A few years ago, Cafe Coffee Day faced some financial problems, and as a result, they had to close some of their cafes and lounges. Currently, their business is flourishing as they have cafes in places like Vienna, Prague, Karachi, and Dubai. CCD also produces its coffee and makes its own coffee machines and furniture. 

7. Amrut Single Malt

Amrut is a single malt whiskey brand famous around the world for its Indian take on single malt. It was recognised as the third-largest single malt brand in the World. Amrut was founded by JN Radhakrishna Rao Jagdale in 1948, and by the year 2009, Neelkanta Rao Jagdale transformed the brand into a Globally famed whiskey company. The liquor is brewed and distilled in the Amrut distillery in Karnataka. 

8. Allen Solly

Allen Solly is another one of the famous Indian Brands that was previously British. Founded in 1744 by ‘William Hollin and Company’ it was later bought by Madura Lifestyle in 1993. It offers clothing, mainly for men, which is very popular in India and across the world. 

9. Tata

Tata is not just a name, it is a source of pride for many Indians. This company has shaped the industrial sector of India, and it’s a true example of the mindset and determination of Indian people. Tata was founded in 1868 by Jamsetji Tata. Since then, Tata has made a name for itself in India and the entire world. Tata Owns a multitude of businesses and companies, from automobiles to airlines and pharmaceuticals to information technology. Tata gave India its first steel plant and its first luxury hotel in Taj, Mumbai. Tata Consultancy Services is one of the biggest IT companies in the whole world. Tata became one of the biggest companies in India and one of the most famous Indian brands in the World. Its Chairman Emeritus, Ratan Tata, is probably the most famous Indian businessman in the world. 

10. Micromax

After having its humble beginning in the year 2000 as an IT company, Micromax has emerged as a fierce competitor in the smart gadget market. It gained international notoriety when in 2014, Micromax shipped more phones in a single quarter than the tech giant Samsung. After a bit of a hiccup, Micromax is planning on returning to the market guns blazing. Throughout the years, celebrities like Akshay Kumar, Twinkle Khanna and Hollywood superstar Hugh Jackman have been the brand ambassador for Micromax.
