Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, today. The summit, held from October 22nd to 24th under Russia’s Chairmanship, is expected to cover several issues, including economic cooperation, climate change, and digital inclusion.
During the two-day summit, PM Modi will likely summon bilateral meetings with his counterparts from BRICS member countries. India might share achievements with BRICS members, such as women-led development and digital infrastructure like UPI. Leaders are expected to discuss their plans to reach a trade target of $100 billion by 2030. The next India-Russia Intergovernmental Commission meeting will be held in November to finalise these targets.
The motto of BRICS Summit 2024 is “Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Development and Security.” This summit will provide leaders a platform to discuss global issues and future collaboration areas. BRICS represents 41% of the world’s population, 24% of global GDP, and 16% of world trade.
