Deporting of Indian Migrants Begins from the USA

US Starts Deporting Indian Migrants Amid Trump’s Immigration Crackdown

The Trump administration started deporting Indian migrants residing in the US illegally. A US military C-17 aircraft carrying 205 Indians departed from San Antonio, Texas, around 3 AM IST (Indian Standard Time). This development comes after Trump’s hardline stance against an estimated 11 million undocumented migrants in the USA.

Last month, the Indian government agreed to take back all its citizens residing illegally in the US, as per Bloomberg. The report shared that the US and India together identified around 18,000 illegal Indian migrants.

India is the farthest country to US military aircraft deporting migrants. The Pentagon,  headquarters of the US Department of Defense, directed jets to deport over 5,000 migrants from EL Paso, Texas, and San Diago, California. As of now, the military aircraft have flown migrants to Guatemala, Peru, and Honduras.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who presented India at the SCO summit 2024, stated, “The Indian government is open to the legitimate return of Indians who have been illegally staying in other countries, including the United States.”

US President Donald Trump has continuously advocated for the removal of illegal immigrants from the US. For this, he mentioned national security concerns, economic impact, and the rule of law. Trump argues that illegal immigration poses threats to public safety and burdens the nation’s resources.
