St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican city got a simultaneous demonstration of over ten thousand devotees waiting to get a glance of Pope Francis, the head of the Catholic Church and Sovereign of the Vatican City State as he showers his noon blessings amidst the outbreak of Coronavirus in Italy, to strangely empty premises of St. Peter’s Square.

The second Sunday of this month was slightly strange as the square was pretty empty as the Italians remained in quarantine due to the COVID-19.

With the door locked to the public, Pope Francis showered his blessings from the Apostolic Library. “Holiness means giving ourselves in sacrifice every day.” Pope repeated at the square.

“In this situation of global emergency pandemic, in which the people across the world find themselves living more and less isolated, we are summoned rediscover the deepest the values of the interaction that brings all the members of the church together,” The head of the Catholic Church said in his blessings after the traditional Angelus prayer. Complete prayer was broadcasted by the Vatican News.

Pope Francis included the medical personnel across the world and praised the volunteers for their contribution and hard work in helping elders, poor and orphans, reported the Vatican News. After the prayer, the Pope went to two other churches for prayer outside the Vatican City.

Condemning the advisory released by the Italian health officials requesting people stay at homes as possible to lower the risk of expansion of the Novel Coronavirus, Pope Francis strolled on the road fearlessly — “as if paving the way of a pilgrimage” — to a wooden church that houses crucifix that was brought through the streets of Rome in 1522 at the time when the entire city was infected with the plague, said a Vatican Spokesperson.

83 years old, Pope has both lungs partially compromised as he was caught coughing and sniffing during a prayer in the square a couple of months ago, he had a light cold, said the Vatican.

Selected churches in Italy are open for public prayer, but all mass gatherings are forbidden during the outbreak.
