Dell Launched New Snapdragon Processors At Vegas Event

Dell launched a new, much more powerful line of computers using Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus on 20 May 2024 at the Vegas Event. These computers are called “Copilot Plus PCs.” These computers have built-in AI hardware and Support for AI features across the Windows operating system.

Qualcomm chips have been used in laptops previously, but this could be the first time Dell has had a chance to use a powerful chip not made by Intel or AMD. Michel Dell, the Chairman and chief executive officer of Dell Technologies, said at the Vegas event, “We are using an advanced architecture with a CPU (Central Processing Unit), a GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) and an NPU (Neural Processing Unit) to manage complex workloads sending the right task to the right engine. The speed and efficiency of these systems are unmatched with all-day battery life.”

Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus processors will be available on laptops later this year, and Dell is betting big on them. Both chips are based on Adreno GPU, Hexagon NPU, and Oryon CPU.

Qualcomm, the mobile chipset giant from San Diego, represents its new PC chips as true “AI processors” and commits a 45 TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second) NPU. This gives Qualcomm an edge over any current platform from AMD and Intel. These next-generation chips are all about NPU and are made specifically for machine learning and generative AI tasks.

Dell plans to take the lead over Apple with its Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus processors on new PCs. The Copilot Plus computers are also packed with other AI features like Recall, a photographic memory on the PC.
