Cyclone Asani Approaching The Bay Of Bengal, High Alert In Two States

On Sunday, a storm in the Bay of Bengal intensified into a Cyclone and is likely to get stronger on Monday. The weather department has predicted heavy rains and speedy winds in Odisha and the northern Andhra Pradesh coasts from Tuesday. Though, it is supposed to fall away next week without hitting the land. The cyclone is named ‘Asani’, a Sinhalese word for Wrath (extreme anger).

The weather forecast authorities have reported it to lay over 380 km west of Port Blair (Bay of Bengal) on Sunday morning, moving towards the northwest side and getting intensified. Therefore, the cyclone is expected to reach the North Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts by the eve of 10 May.

As per the cyclone tracker, the winds can hit at a maximum speed of 111 KMP on Monday in the Bay of Bengal, and it will gradually get weaker as it moves towards the northwest Andhra and Odisha shores.

Seaside districts of the southern West Bengal and Odisha, including Kolkata, are supposed to be flogged by light till the rain gets moderate in two days. Anglers have been instructed not to go into the sea waters of West Bengal and Odisha coasts till the next forewarning.

The weather office has said that weather conditions in Odisha will get worse on May 9 and even rougher on May 10 as the winds will hit the shores at 80-90 KMPH.
