After the Pahalgam attack, in which almost 26 people were killed, on 22 April, the nation was in anger. The entire country wanted to take revenge for killing innocent tourists and was waiting for the Indian Government’s response.
On 7 May, in response, ‘Operation Sindoor‘ was launched, in which India targeted nine terrorist camps, including four in Pakistan and five in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (Pok). However, no military establishments were targeted, and no reports of collateral damage were reported.
After two days of an Indian strike on 9 May, Pakistan targeted multiple locations in India, including Punjab, Chandigarh and Jammu, but India destroyed all the drones and other munitions, which raised the tensions between the two nations.
India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, said after four days of military exchanges with neighbouring Pakistan that his country will respond strongly to future terrorist attacks.
“This is not an era of war, but this is also not an era of terror,” Modi said in his first public address since the days of intense shelling and aerial incursions, carried out by both sides, began.
Modi added to his statement, “Water and blood cannot flow together,” referring to the suspension of a water treaty between India and Pakistan.
Both military officials agreed on a ceasefire on Monday. Earlier, Pakistan breached the ceasefire agreement, which was held on Saturday, hours after the decision.
India also announced the reopening of 32 airports for civilians that had remained closed until Thursday due to safety concerns.
