Coronavirus Update:

The Whole world is going through the second wave of Coronavirus, but the condition in India is getting worse day by day. On Wednesday, India reported the highest spike in COVID-19 cases. For the first time, the country recorded over 3 lakh cases as the death toll reached 2091.

With a total 1,59,24,914 cases and 1,84,662 deaths, India becomes the second-worst affected country after the US. Taking the records and critical situation into account, PM Modi addressed the nation on Tuesday. He said our only aim is to save the country from complete lockdown. He urged the State Governments to concentrate on the containment zones and consider lockdown the very last option.

Maharashtra, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh are some hotspot states of the country. The State Government also imposed strict COVID-19 restrictions, including night curfew, Weekend Curfew, and complete lockdown to control the spread of infection. Maharashtra reported 67,468 cases, and Uttar Pradesh and Delhi recorded 33,214 and 24,638 new cases respectively on 21 April.

Besides recording the highest number of COVID-19 cases and deaths, India also collected the highest number of COVID-19 samples to test. On 20th April, 2021, around 16,39,357 tests were conducted in the country. This is the first time when the daily tests in India crossed 16 lakhs.

Prior to India, the US was the only country that recorded more than 3 lakh cases in a single day. On January 2, 2021, the country reported 3,00,310 infections, while Brazil recorded 1,00,158 cases on March 25, 2021, and the UK with 68,192 cases on January 8, 2021.

Even, during the peak of the first wave, India didn’t cross the 1 lakh mark. On September 16, 2020, the country recorded 97, 860 cases, the highest rise for the first wave.

As far as the vaccine is concerned, around 17.5 million people are fully vaccinated. However, the daily vaccination rate in India has declined in the last week due to the increasing number of infection rates. Between April 7-13, India recorded an average of 34.43 lakh doses every day.
